Chad Vandermee: Drums
Chad’s musical career began in
Jr. High school, in which he originally learned to play trumpet. However,
because of the wide-ranging musical tastes of his parents, he was
increasingly drawn to percussion instruments. He was exposed primarily to
rock, jazz and classical music, and took formal lessons in all of these
genres in high school.
His fondness for playing “deep in the
groove” and his ability to read musical scores was helpful in his
interactions with local musical legend Bugs Barbee, who furthered Chad’s
musical education and re-introduced him to Blues. Bugs was highly
respected by his students because of his soulful attitude and his
attention to detail, and Chad benefited greatly from this
association.
In 1999, Chad moved to Los Angeles to
play with some excellent musicians, some of whom have gigs on television
and other major venues. For five years, he played frequently in well known
clubs such as the Roxy and the House of Blues in a band called Deep Fried.
In this context, he was fortunate enough to meet or jam with a number of
influential musicians, and was pleased to discover that they are “real
people, just like the rest of us.”
Some of Chad’s main musical influences
are John Bonham, Neil peart, Carl Palmer, Chris Layton and Carter Beauford.
He currently plays a black 6-piece Mapex Mars Pro drum kit.
When Chad is not playing with Cari Dell
he is on Call for such bands as the Police, Parliament Funkadelic, Led
Zeppelin and The Beatles.
